Tresl Education Ltd are excited to be embarking on a joint research and development project with Virtual Health Labs Limited to explore the potential for an automated coaching platform to help apprentices develop the behaviours that are part of each apprenticeship standard.
Dr Tim Anstiss of Virtual Health Labs (VHL) and Jon Jackson (founder of Tresl and Senior Lecturer at Buckinghamshire New University) will be leading on the research project which will focus on how the following techniques and approaches can be applied to an apprentice’s learning journey:
- Motivational interviewing as described by Miller and Rollnick (2013)
- Behavioural activation
- Positive psychology
- Strength-based coaching
- Seligman’s (2012) PERMA+ Model of Wellbeing
Our Goals
- Help training providers deliver personalised learning journeys for their apprentices and be able to evidence this
- Help learners engage intentionally and constructively with the behaviours listed in their apprenticeship standard
- Improve learner retention and achievement
- Improve learner confidence and wellbeing
Phase 1 – Development Group (December 2022)
- Formation of a small “development group” of representatives from training providers delivering programmes in different sectors and different levels.
- Collaborative discovery session with development group to understand priorities and key concerns
We are looking to arrange an initial group consultation via Zoom for mid-December 2022. The consultation will follow the format of a collaborative workshop with active participation expected from all attendees. The workshop is not expected to last more than 2 hours and may be recorded.
This call will be open until the end of Wednesday 30th November, 2022.
Phase 2 – Prototyping (early 2023)
Planning in progress
Phase 3 – Pilot
Early pilots will likely take the form of a paid pilot, whereby eligible apprenticeship providers will contribute towards part of the development and support costs of the platform in return for long-term access at heavily discounted rates.
